Broken 03:20
Broken Now it’s broken And you just can’t bring it back Now it’s broken And you just can’t bring it back Everything has its limits There’s a lot that we can take But sometimes a single action Causes us to break Try to look the other way Try to find the words to say These events can't be spun The damage has been done You can't bring it back Most of all I regret Not letting go of the past It will never be the same But we move on at last Now it’s broken And you just can’t bring it back Now it’s broken And you just can’t bring it back Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote.

Losing Touch 04:01
Losing Touch We connect through the void's invisible wires A command, a location or our deepest desires Hands to speak Our hands grow weak Talking with hands Losing touch The speed of thought The speed of light I'm losing touch... We harnessed the wind We banished the night I'm losing touch... Hands to speak Our hands grow weak Talking with hands Losing touch These hands that made factories These hands that laid rail These hands are retired to virtual mail I'm losing touch... Hands to speak Our hands grow weak Talking with hands Losing touch No silent glance No courtship dance We're losing touch The safety of distance Without taking a chance Hands to speak Our hands grow weak Talking with hands Losing touch We're so out of touch... We're losing touch. Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote.

Green Eyes 03:17
Green Eyes How do you know? When you’ve found the one Is there a way to prove? That your search is done Feelings I can’t disguise My heart beats fast When I see your green eyes Love is hard to explain Is it in the heart, or in the brain? Is it simple chemistry? Is it luck or destiny? Feelings I can’t disguise ... My heart beats fast When I see your green eyes How do you know? When you've found the one So many years since we first met Our feelings ebb and flow like tides Even now a simple glance The same feelings I can't deny Feelings I can’t disguise ... My heart beats fast When I see your green eyes Is it luck or destiny? Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote.

Quiet Mind 03:31
Quiet Mind The stillness It easily escapes Our minds want to move Want to measure, want to prove Chaos and confusion Are just an illusion I need to find my quiet mind... The chaos we feel is perceived We create what we believe Our thoughts control What we receive Chaos and confusion Are just an illusion I need to find my quiet mind... Chaos and confusion Are just an illusion The universe was designed By the Quiet Mind I need to find my quiet mind... My quiet mind My quiet mind Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote

The Wild 03:32
The Wild The deer turned and stared The sound of shoes and paws Triggered a response Its instincts made it pause We live outside the wild... The land we inhabit Is merely on loan The wild will reclaim it And everything we’ve sewn The border of our land A boundary between The present and the past The tamed and the extreme We live outside the wild... The land we inhabit Is merely on loan The wild will reclaim it And everything we’ve sewn On the coldest winter nights I see the panes of glass I thank those who had vision They accepted their mission The land that we inhabit Is merely on loan The wild will reclaim it And everything we’ve sewn We live outside the wild We live outside the wild...

Earthbound 03:16
Earthbound Made of star dust Water. Metal. Rust. Wood and stone Flesh and bone I’m earthbound... This sphere is home Beneath the blue dome So paper thin A fragile skin I’m earthbound... We must live We must die Nothing is forever Except sea and sky I’m earthbound... We must live We must live Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote

Journey 03:30
Journey Point to point We keep moving From mundane tasks Or theories proving Our journey has no beginning Our journey has no end A journey for the heart A journey for the mind We run to reach our goals Or leave the past behind Our journey has no beginning Our journey has no end Sometimes we can't decide Which path we should take There’s no perfect answer For every move we make Our journey has no beginning Our journey has no end Chaotic interactions Or part of a master plan From a single cell To a thinking man Our journey has no beginning Our journey has no end Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote.

Haunts 03:20
Haunts A glimpse of the past A sight or a smell The sorrow and joyful The places we dwell Don’t forget me I won’t forget you Don’t forget me I won’t forget you A note, a picture A trace of the past The roots of our trees Some vanish, some last Don’t forget me I won’t forget you Don’t forget me I won’t forget you We need to remember We need to forget Our triumphs, our failures Those things we regret Don’t forget me I won’t forget you Don’t forget me I won’t forget you We need to remember We need to forget Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote

Morning Commute Feel the wheel in my grasp The simple act of continuing As simple as riding the road To the target ahead Temptation and rationalization Waiting to press the gas Break through the glass I know I won't miss the target But I still turn Straight and true To what’s inside of you The path is clear We can’t stay here Straight and true Sitting in a staff meeting Plastic plants and vinyl seating Empty eyes, well chosen lies Taking notes not worth reading Bodies sit in warm quick sand Counting down time Until the end Straight and true To what’s inside of you The path is clear We can’t stay here Straight and true Doubt and fear I always veer Tomorrow will be different cause I won't stop Dreams and aspirations like treasure Trapped in a leaking hold Sinking in the darkness Silent and cold The sun is getting lower But there’s still some light Orange and Glowing Before the night Straight and true To what’s inside of you The path is clear We can’t stay here Straight and true Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote.

Perception 03:25
Perception Truth or fiction It's not always clear People only say What they want you to hear What is real? What is real? Adjust the reception Change your perception Some see black and white Some see gray Some are willing to fight Over words we say What is real? What is real? Adjust the reception Change your perception Some use words To control or deceive But we’re all free By how we perceive Adjust the reception Change your perception Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote.

Static 03:56
Static The sound of the stars Electrically charged From the smallest spark To lightning’s arc Tune out the static... I try to reach you But the spark's too strong I try to hear you But the frequency is wrong The static can collect The potential to disrupt The way we connect The message can get corrupt Tune out the static... I try to reach you But the spark's too strong I try to hear you But the frequency's wrong The sparks of life Or the sound of space The static is transformed Without leaving a trace Tune out the static... I try to reach you But the spark's too strong I try to hear you But the frequency's wrong Tune out the static... Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote.

Day One 03:11
Day One Just setting out On the first day Great expectations Don’t know what will come my way Now everything feels new Like the first days of spring Like the sun breaking through Day one You’ve made your choice Day one Go find your voice They hold warning signs To stay within the lines You’ll surely fail It doesn’t work this way Misery loves company You’ll have to stand alone You’ll have to learn to walk again Or slowly turn to stone Day one You’ve made your choice Day one Go find your voice Don't turn around Don't turn around Day one You’ve made your choice Day one Go find your voice Day one Don’t turn around Day one Don’t turn around Music and Lyrics by Chuck Cote.

about

Chuck Cote has worked in many facets of the music industry, but at heart, he is a bass player. Chuck started out playing bass for Multi Color House, a Tampa based alternative rock band from ’89 to ’91. The band performed at the New Music Seminar in New York, and did multiple dates up and down the east coast, and performed live on 95YNF radio. During that time, Chuck also worked at Nova Guitar Company, owned by renowned luthier John Buscarino. “I learned many valuable guitar building skills while working for John at Nova. He is a brilliant craftsman. It was very rewarding to build instruments, as well as play them.”

Chuck left the Tampa area in ’92, and formed a new band called “The Miracle Field” with his wife Igna and brother Bill. The band received positive reviews, and airplay on college radio. Chuck also had the opportunity to work as a production assistant for REM, during the recording of the “Monster” album. “Seeing REM record in the studio was really thrilling, and it left an impression on me. They were a hard working band, and their music was heartfelt, and genuine. They were a friendly bunch. I mostly worked as a gopher, you know, getting meals for them, making sure they had the gear they needed; drum heads etc. It was a great learning experience.” REM’s bassist Mike Mills came out to see The Miracle Field live at the Cotton Club in downtown Atlanta.

After a few years in Atlanta, Chuck returned to the Tampa area to launch Charles Cote Basses. Chuck built basses for many pro musicians, including Bonnie Rait’s bassist Hutch Hutchinson and bassist Ronnie Garrett. Chuck actively produced basses from ’94 to ’98. During this time, Chuck was also playing bass in the band Emmett Brown with his brothers Bill and Dan. They moved their band and bass workshop to Chicago from ’97-’98 to try their fortunes there, and played many clubs including the Double Door. They released a self-titled EP in ’97, which received radio airplay on various college radio stations. Emmett Brown later returned to Tampa, and changed their name to The Reverse Engineers. They released their CD “Max Q” in 2004. Max Q received college and Internet radio airplay, and the band twice were guests on the nationally broadcast David Lawrence radio show. “Hearing our music on a nationally syndicated radio show was a big thrill. Radio has a certain sound, and hearing your music over radio is always memorable.” The Reverse Engineers went on to release several singles during the years following Max Q.

Chuck began studying audio engineering in recent years, and mixed several singles for the Reverse Engineers, as well as brother Bill’s solo project “Letters from Jeremiah”.

Simple Forces is the name for Chuck’s solo music project. His first album, “Earthbound” was released on September 5, 2015. “The project started as just me doing music for my own self amusement. After a few songs, I got really caught up in it, and before I knew it, I had 12 tunes recorded and mixed”. The album features alternative rock tunes with memorable melodies, and features tasteful but sometimes adventurous bass playing. On “Earthbound”, Chuck played a Fender ’63 American Vintage reissue Precision bass with flat wound strings. “I love the sound and feel of flat wounds on a P bass. The combo sits very well in the mix. I split the P bass signal, running one channel into a Rupert Neve Designs 511 preamp, and the other into an SWR Interstellar Overdrive tube preamp for some pleasing distortion. I also used a variety of outboard analog hardware by SSL, Elysia, Shadow Hills industries and Warm Audio. Mixing music on a computer using Pro Tools is powerful and fast, but it can sound a bit sterile. Analog compressors and equalizers add pleasing harmonics to the music, similar to the sounds you used to get from big mixing consoles in large studios.” Chuck also did vocals, guitar, synths, drum programming and lyrics for Earthbound.

As for the future of The Reverse Engineers, Chuck thinks there is another TRE record on the horizon. “We hope to write another Reverse Engineers record soon, and I look forward to playing on it, as well as mixing it.” Chuck also plans to release more Simple Forces music, and will work as a session bassist and audio engineer for other musician’s projects.

“I love making music, whether it’s writing, recording, mixing, or building instruments. But in the end, I am a bass player, so I want to play bass on as many projects as I can.”
